The history of OUT OF CHINA does not begin in Barcelona, nor even in 2002. Its true origins go back to 1926, in the city of Suzhou, in southern China, when my grandmother started a small family business, guided by tradition, hard work, and the art of authentic Chinese cuisine. In an environment where each recipe was passed down from generation to generation, she laid the foundations of what we continue to preserve with pride today.
Since I was little, I grew up surrounded by the culinary richness of southern China, a region abundant in flavors, where rice is widely eaten due to its easy cultivation, and where fish, fresh vegetables, and aromatic meats are plentiful. Those ingredients and preparations shaped my way of understanding cooking: as an act of love, identity, and continuity.

In 1952, it was my mother who took over, strengthening my grandmother’s legacy with sensitivity and determination. In 1978, I decided to follow the same path, convinced that our family’s cuisine had something authentic to offer beyond our borders.

In the early 1990s, we arrived in Barcelona, a city undergoing a major transformation for the 1992 Olympic Games. That open, cosmopolitan energy was the perfect setting to begin a new chapter.

Finally, in 2002, together with my parents, we founded the restaurant OUT OF CHINA with the vision of sharing the cuisine of southern China in an authentic and modern way. From the very beginning, we specialized in traditional dishes prepared with homemade techniques, and in particular in dumplings, one of our signature elements. Each one is handmade, with care and respect for our family recipes, combining tradition and quality.

In addition, we are committed to healthy and responsible cooking, free of MSG, using local products and no additives, to offer our customers pure, natural flavors that are respectful of the environment.

Adapting to new needs, we offer home delivery so that more people can enjoy our dishes from the comfort of their homes.

Two years ago, we founded the Wong Family brand, under which we distribute our gyozas throughout Spain, bringing a small piece of our tradition directly to more homes and palates.

Today, OUT OF CHINA is run by us, the sisters Chenqi and Chenming. While I contribute the experience and family tradition, Chenming brings the knowledge of her generation to meet the current demands of our customers, ensuring that the restaurant evolves without losing its essence.

The flavors of OUT OF CHINA take us on a gastronomic journey through China, from Suzhou to Barcelona, inviting us to discover and enjoy each bite as a unique experience.
